Installation of the software was effortless. While we appreciate that Neat offers their plans on a monthly basis, if you are committing to the software, there is no reason not to buy the annual plan which works out to a 17% discount for the Essential and Business plans and a 33% savings on the Premium plan.
A “Business” plan which supports 5 users and again, adds some features is $24.99 per month or $249.99 per year. The (most popular) “Premium” plan supports 2 users and adds several features, including enhanced tech support, at a monthly cost of $14.99 or $119.99 annually. The “Essential” plan supports one user at $5.99 per month or $59.99 per year. After that, you have to renew your software plan on a monthly or annual basis. That may be (as we found out) because the software bundled with the NeatConnect scanner only provides a one-year license. In fact, if you go to the Neat website, the first selection under the Products tab is Software Plans. The software is such an important part of Neat as a company that they even sell it as a stand-alone item on their web site. NeatConnect SoftwareĪlthough the NeatConnect scanner is TWAIN complaint and can scan to other applications, we find is hard to think that anyone buying a Neat scanner wouldn’t be using the Neat software. While you can’t see the detail, this is an opportunity to delete any pages you may have scanned but don’t need to send to the final location which we found helpful. However, there is no way to designate when some of the documents in a batch are individual pages and others need to be combined so that would require you scan those separately.Īfter the scans are completed you are presented with thumbnails of the pages. The scanner provides automatic blank page removal which we found to be very accurate. They all scanned the first time without a jam or a mis-feed. In one test, we loaded all three slots in the paper tray with documents that were far from pristine in condition. There was no hesitation between pages, even when we were doing 2-sided scans, and the scan accepted the multiply size documents without hesitation. The scanner is rated at 24ppm in color, grayscale or B&W and while we didn’t time it, there is no doubt that this is a quick machine. Once selections are made you press the SCAN icon in the middle of the screen and the scanner starts. You can then swipe left or right to select the destination of the scans. There are selections for Color or B&W, 1 or 2 Sided and whether the pages are combined into a single document or each page is an individual scan. Once set up, all functions are controlled from the scanner’s touchscreen. While you can’t type very fast, Neat has found a way to let the user press on a very small keyboard without making many errors. We chose the latter given the small size of the LCD screen on the scanner but also found that using the keyboard on the screen was surprisingly easy to use.

In the alternative, you can complete the set-up process from your browser after you download the Neat software. Once you plug it in and press the power button on the rear of the unit, the small LED screen guides you through the set-up operation. Set-up of the unit is very straight-forward. Without the tray, the document feeder can hold 50 letter size documents. The removable top panel acts as a multi size paper tray which holds 15 business cards, 15 receipts and 15 letter size documents, all at the same time. The scanner supports 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi as well as WEP, WPA/WPA2-Personal security. The scanner also has a standard SD card slot for scanning directly to a card up to 32 GB. The scanner supports almost any size document from 1.5” x 2” all the way up to 8.5” x 30” and will scan up to 600dpi although there are some limitations above a standard 8.5” x 11” paper size. When you remove it from the box you will find nicely tucked underneath, a small cardboard sleeve for the power cord, another sleeve with a USB cord for optional connection to a computer and a set-up guide which contains a PIN to activate the Neat Software bundle which is downloaded from the Neat web site. The only thing you see is the sleek flat surface of the NeatConnect Scanner. When you open the box of the NeatConnect Scanner you might think it was designed by our friends in Cupertino.
